Spiritual First Aid Through Compassion: What it means in today’s world

Rebuilding Lives, Inc. defines compassion as “recognizing the suffering of others and then taking action to help.” I personally believe that in the world today it means truly seeing people, recognizing their struggles and then drawing nearer to them to help. Rebuilding Lives, Inc. hopes we recognize the fullness of their situations and their hearts and give them the assistance they need to follow and comfort them, so they no longer feel neglected or displaced in a world that is constantly changing its priorities…efficiency over efficacy and expediency over compassion for people in need.

I can attest that all our intentions are good, but we sometimes fail in the spiritual first aid of those in need as we try to fill the physical and psychological needs at hand. We recognize it is faith, hope and love that brings people to change, and the spirit is what fuels the desire.  Our desire is to continue to grow in this area as a non-profit as we learn to responsively act in meeting the needs of others and supporting them in their struggles. We continue to do this every day from the Heart and compassionately live this out in action in our community. May we be “slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness” (Psalm 86:15) to our clients and our community.
